Rodd Lucier : As a teacher; learner; consultant; speaker; and collaborator, I'm on the lookout for opportunities to engage in meaningful conversations with others who see themselves as learners. Professional development; project based learning; and Creative Commons are topics that are always on my radar.

Google Docs

I suspect many of you have already been using the various tools available through Google Docs, if so, this should be an easy assignment. If not, it still should be a fairly easy assignment. Schools are switching to using to using Google Docs at a rapid pace. It is clear that future teachers need to have a comfort zone when it comes to these tools. So this assignment will have numerous parts to give you some practice with the different tools.

Part 1: Docs (Word Processing)...............................................................................................................

1. Google docs. Share 2 resources: It explains what to do on the document!,

Grad info: 10 points each resource added, 2 required,

Extra Credit Option: You may add up to 4 total (2 for extra credit)

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1a5b3IVynHQXZNrmbCTtELmgxJsMoAcQStB2wyh_e4ow/edit

2. Add your 2 resources to your WP website. Title the post: Google Docs sharing and resources to share. Don;t forget to add a link to the actual Google Docs so visitors to your site can see not only the 2 resources you are sharing but also all the resources your classmates shared in the Google Doc.

Grade info: 20 points

Part 2: Presentation (like PowerPoint or Keynote)...................................................................................

1. Consider your content area, in other words, what you will be teaching someday soon. Create a Google Presentation with not less than 10 slides. Each slide must contain, text, link and picture. Title your presentation: 10 excellent resources for ??_ teachers. ( Fill in the blank)

Find not less than 10, but you may do more (an addition 5 with ear extra credit points), resources to share with other teachers in your content area. Be very clear on your slide with why this is a good resource and what it could be used for. Don't make assumption!!

Grade info:
Add your presentation to your WP website. Title the Post: Google: 10 Excellent Resource for _??__ teachers.
50 points,
Extra Credit option: 5 points for each of the 5 additional resource slide for extra credit)

Part 2: Forms (make a self-grading test)....................................................................................................

1.. Now you know how to word process and make a presentation, let's make a form/test. Since teachers have to make lots of test and grading them is really time consuming, let's make one that grade itself. Your classmates will be taking your test. Clearly not every test a teacher gives could be a self grading one, but our point is to learn how to make one. There are tutorial movies a in the Google Docs in the K12 Classroom above.

2. You test is an internet Scavenger Hunt. I suggest you relate it to your content area, but students (your classmates) should be able to find the answer on the internet and there should be right and wrong answers. Remember the point is to really learn how to use this tool and see how it could work in your teaching.

3 Your form/test/scavenger hunt must have the following.

  • A title

  • Instructions for the student

  • Place for the Students Name

  • At least 10 questions

  • There are 7 types of questions and you must use at least 5 types.

  • Apply a theme, there are 95 to select from, choose something you LIKE!

4. Post the link to your test on this Google document:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dFVOMWhSUmpVZmJpYjU2X1VvZmxWSXc6MQ

During week 5, when everyone has completed making their test, you will be assigned to take 3 different classmates tests, details will be reveled Week 5, I just wanted you to know that your self-graded Google form test will be taken by at least 3 of your classmates. This is the only way you will be able to see how the self grading works and find out if you did it correctly. It is a journey and about learning HOW!!!!!!

Grade Info:
Your test embedded on your WP site: 50 points (5 points each question)
The link to your test added to the Google form: 10 points
